Aniridia North America (ANA) announces its biennial scientific event to strengthen and expand research focused on aniridia and related problems. The 2025 Aniridia North America Symposium: PAX6, Aniridia, and Beyond will bring together top researchers from around the world for the presentation and discussion of innovative and often unpublished research at the forefront of understanding PAX6, aniridia and related conditions. This meeting will be held November 7-9 at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA.
The conference is for scientists by scientists and offers a free environment for leading researchers to network and make connections in emerging science. This meeting, like previous ones in 2019, 2021, and 2023, will provide a forum for the scientific community to present current aniridia research findings and facilitate collaboration on future studies.
“This meeting continues to be a catalyst for scientific discovery, allowing researchers to connect insights across disciplines and deepen our understanding of aniridia, eye development, health, and disease,” said Robert Grainger, PhD, Chair of the ANA Meetings Committee. “By coming together, we accelerate progress—and I’m confident this gathering will once again spark innovative solutions to the challenges of aniridia.”
Patient advocacy organization leaders will attend the meeting to represent the needs of people with aniridia. Patient-focused summaries of symposium presentations will be shared after the meeting.
“I am excited about once again attending the ANA Symposium this fall”, said Michael Schain, ANA Board Member at Large. “The opportunity for medical professionals, researchers, and patient advocates to seek the latest developments together in this forum brings me such hope as an adult with aniridia.”
“These scientific meetings bring real encouragement to the aniridia community,” said Susan Wolfe, Vision for Tomorrow (VFT) and ANA Board member. “They’ve helped VFT identify promising new studies to fund, increased the communication between the scientific and patient community, and highlighted the incredible value of researchers from around the world working together.”
The 2025 Aniridia North America Symposium: PAX6, Aniridia, and Beyond and ongoing research education is part of the vision of ANA. Because ANA aims to educate and inspire the next generation of clinical providers and scientists to work collaboratively with aniridia patients, this year’s symposium will include attendance and poster presentations by up-and-coming researchers for the first time.
Please consider a donation to ANA to help fund this important scientific session. Current sponsors for the 2025 meeting include Eastern Virginia Medical School, the Vision for Tomorrow Foundation, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, and the International WAGR Syndrome Association.
