Aniridia North America (ANA) is pleased to announce that our Board Chair, Dr. Peter Netland, is moving to Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, Virginia as Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Netland’s previous appointments included Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia (UVA) and Professor and Vice Chair of Ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. During his career he has established expertise and international reputation in the clinical management and surgical treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Netland has significant experience with individuals affected with aniridia, and he will continue this care at EVMS.
In his new position, Dr. Netland will serve as Chair of EVMS Ophthalmology. He will continue his clinical work, and apply his leadership experience and dedication to advancing research, education, and patient care. Dr. Netland states “I am thrilled to lead the Department of Ophthalmology during this exciting time for ophthalmology, the community, and the institution.” Dr. Netland will be at EVMS effective June 17, 2024. EVMS will merge with Old Dominion University (ODU) in July, 2024.
Dr. Netland is a co-founder of ANA and currently serves as Board Chair, leading activities to further ANA’s mission to represent, serve, and support the North American Community of persons affected by aniridia and their families, patient advocacy organizations, and clinicians and scientists.
